Trekking in Tanzania

From the forests above Arusha to the ice of Uhuru Peak — climb the mountains that watch over our home.

Our Mountains

Tanzania’s
Great Peaks

On a clear morning in Arusha, two giants fill the horizon. Mount Kilimanjaro rises to 5,895 m as the highest mountain in Africa, while Mount Meru — 4,566 m and wrapped in the wildlife of Arusha National Park — is Tanzania’s second-highest summit and a superb climb in its own right.

First-time hiker or seasoned mountaineer, we match you with the right route, the right pace and a crew that knows every switchback. Expect cloud forest, open moorland, lunar ridges and sunrise views that stay with you long after you are home.

Summit I

Mount Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain on Earth, a vast volcano whose summit, Uhuru Peak, stands 5,895 m above the sea. No ropes or technical skills are needed — just good preparation, patience and the right route.

Over five to nine days you climb from farmland and rainforest through heather, moorland and alpine desert to the glaciers of the crater rim. Standing beside the summit sign as the sun comes up is a moment few climbers ever forget.

Summit II

Mount Meru

Mount Meru is the volcano that towers over Arusha, and at 4,566 m it is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania. Its horseshoe-shaped crater, sheer inner cliffs and young ash cone make for some of the most dramatic scenery in East Africa.

Because the trail lies inside Arusha National Park, you share the lower slopes with giraffes, buffalo and colobus monkeys, walking with an armed park ranger. Many climbers use Meru as a warm-up for Kilimanjaro, yet it is a rewarding summit in its own right.
